"Holding the Fort"
The log structure of Fort Holmes sits atop the highest point on Mackinac Island, reminiscent of the days when it was an instrumental outpost in the War of 1812. Now part of the Historic Park's interprentive tours, there are no soldiers except for this inhabitant who lives in one of the weapon ports in the blockhouse. This woodcut tells a bit of that story...
